The Chamber Celebrates Prince Philip's Life

This picture of Prince Philip is courtesy of the artist Anthony Freeman and shows the Duke's lighter side. Anthony will be presenting the picture to the royal family with his compliments.

The flags are flying at half mast all over the country in remembrance of the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip, who died at Windsor Castle on Friday 9th April. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to the Queen and the royal family.

Sometimes thought of as somewhat curmudgeonly, it is now clear that Prince Philip had a great sense of humour alongside an unshakeable commitment to duty. He stood at the side of our Queen and supported our country in all sorts of unseen ways and will be missed.

Security specialist and Chamber member Paul Brown worked closely with the Royal Family for many years and has added his own tribute to the man he knew:

"I was privileged to work closely with our Royal Family for 10 years providing personal security, this of course included HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. I have watched many of the tributes, most of which accurately describe his no nonsense approach to things, I remember him as a stickler for doing things right, I, along with colleagues, would often accompany HRH to Polo, Carriage Driving and many other functions, often very low key and without fuss. His commitment to the environment and associated topics are well documented but I do remember us all having a chuckle when arriving at a venue in an environmentally friendly electric van which he often used and the group waiting to greet his Royal Highness totally ignoring the van looking for the arrival of a limo, then looking slightly embarrassed as HRH appeared behind them from this very ordinary looking van.

"It was an honour and pleasure to have played a very small part but one I am exceptionally proud of; my thoughts and the thoughts and wishes of my former SO14 colleagues are with Her Majesty and the family at this difficult time."
