Sovereign Commercial leads the way with state of the art installation

State-of-the-art facilities at Langney Shopping Centre ensure a more inclusive society

Most of us don’t think twice about visiting public spaces. However, for some disabled people, the daily activities we take for granted are off-limits.

Standard toilets don’t meet the needs of many disabled people, or the needs of their carers. With this in mind, Chamber member Langney Shopping Centre has installed state-of-the-art changing facilities, built by Soverign Commercial.

The facilities were installed under the Changing Places campaign, an initiative from Muscular Dystrophy UK which ensures toilets in public spaces are built to the strictest standards for inclusivity, safety and hygiene.

Since opening at the end of last year, the Changing Places facilities have been used by nearly 5,000 visitors including disabled people and mothers with babies.

Speaking of the facilities, which were 50% funded by Eastbourne Borough Council , Centre manager Neil Avis, said “the Centre was extremely grateful for the funding, because the installation was so desperately needed. Our disabled customers & Mothers and babies have given it a thumbs up”.
