Co-founder of Gradient Consultants, Richard is a chartered building surveyor and management consultancy surveyor, with over 25 years in the industry working on buildings as diverse as; Listed stuccoed terraces, residential developments, factories, a cathedral, fire stations, stately homes and the Shard.

As building surveyors and project managers, Gradient work with a number of prestigious clients including; Eastbourne Homes, Carlton Property Management, Lewes District Council, Hyde Group, Wightman & Parrish, HML Anderton, South London & Maudsley NHS Trust, the Environment Agency, Burlington Estates, London Fire Brigade, London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham and the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea.

Richard is a UK based professional with Global insight and spent 2013-2017 as a Global non-exec with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, where he led a review of professional groups and still holds a position on the Global knowledge board. Richard has attended and spoken at strategic forums around the World from Johannesburg to Sao Paulo, Paris, Shanghai and London. He has also written a number of published articles, ranging from change management to the future of the profession.

He is the Vice Chair of the South Downs Learning Trust, which incorporates Ratton and Ocklynge schools and as a seasoned ultra-runner has completed numerous 100 mile races including the Marathon des Sables and Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc.

Herron Fisher Insolvency Practitioners

Nicky Fisher was born and bred in Eastbourne and originally trained as an Accountant before qualifying as an Insolvency Practitioner in 1998 with a local firm. She later commuted to London and Croydon for a few years before setting up Herron Fisher in 2006. The firm now employs seven people and has offices in Eastbourne and Croydon.

Nicky has been an active member of the Chamber for the past seven years and is a great supporter of the town. When she has a spare minute, she loves to play golf and tennis. She is also a National Council Member of both the Insolvency Practitioners Association and the Association of Accounting Technicians.

Immediate Past President, Tim Cobb spent 14 years as a journalist on the local and national news scene before setting up Cobb PR in 1995. He runs the business with his wife Sue and employs 10 people in the Eastbourne office and two in their Brighton & Hove office.

Tim has been an active member of the chamber for many years and is a great supporter of the town and its wonderful community. Tim has three grown-up sons and lives in Old Town. When he has a spare minute, he loves to run over the downs with his dog Maisie, or cycle along the South Downs Way.

Colbran and Wingrove

Russell was born in Eastbourne and feels very passionate about the town, having always lived and worked in the local area. Entering the construction industry in the late eighties, he secured a position with Walter Llewellyn & Sons as a management trainee and completed a 4-year training scheme achieving an ONC and HNC in building studies. During his time at Llewellyns, Russell gained experience across a wide range of commercial and residential projects valuing up to £1.5m. He joined his father's business, Colbran & Wingrove, in 1996 as contract surveyor and manager and subsequently took over the firm as managing director in 2003.

Russell has been a member of Eastbourne Round Table for over 11 years, and has held the posts of chairman and secretary in that time which has also seen his involvement in and organisation of numerous charity events. A family man, he has two sons and enjoys walking on the South Downs with his wife Judy and 'Obi' his labradoodle. Along with an enduring love of golf he was a keen cyclist for a time and cycled the South Downs Way in 2014 for charity, but says 'never again'!

Rebecca Conroy has worked in Further and Higher Education for over 20 years within the Sussex area and holds a Masters in Business Administration as well as a CMI Level 7.

Her particular area of expertise has been on widening participation, social inclusion and ensuring that curriculum pathways promote success and higher levels of study. As Principal at East Sussex College in Eastbourne she is focussed on rebuilding the quality and reputation of the College within the local community and developing exciting pathways to develop young people’s knowledge, skills and behaviours in readiness for local and regional employment.

She is currently driving the work experience and industrial placement agenda within the College and is leading on the implementation of new T-Levels as part of a Department of Education pilot.

Establishing strong and collaborative relationships with employers are crucial to this and Rebecca is experienced in delivering partnerships and projects with small, medium and large employers for the benefit of all parties.

The View Hotel

Matt Huddart is the General Manager of ‘The View’ Hotel that lines the Eastbourne promenade where he has held this position for since 2013. Matt has Overseen the transformation of the business coordinating significant investment to make it the wonderful hotel and venue that it is today recently achieving the Eastbourne Business Award for Hospitality and Tourism.

Matts background has always been hospitality, originally working for Forte, and later working with large brands with the Intercontinental Hotels Group, Wyndham and Jupiter Hotels where he worked with the successful Accor brand, Mercure. His very first role was at the tender age of 13 as a porter and silver person for a small family run hotel in his home town of Folkestone, in Matts words ‘I polished the silver cutlery and teapots!’

Outside of work Matt enjoys spending time with his wife and teenage son, and the newest addition to the family their puppy Dudley. When Matt isn’t chasing the dog down on long country walks he enjoys nothing more than tinkering with his new purchase a VW Van. As a self-confessed petrol head you may even pass him on his motorbike.

Having worked in retail and hospitality management since leaving college in 2007 Zoe joined Metro Bank as a Customer Service Representative in 2016. In just a year she was promoted to the position of Business Manager and transferred to Metro Bank in Eastbourne, where her family live and she is a member of the local Chinese Association.
Metro Bank is Britain’s first new high street bank in over 100 years, focused on providing amazing service and convenience to customers. It is a full service, fully authorised bank, offering retail and commercial banking services to customers, direct and through brokers.

Hardy has built his career around a love of food and an appreciation for fresh, seasonal produce; something he honed during 15 years working as a fruit and vegetable supplier in London, including at New Spitalfields Market. He completed a degree in wine business at Plumpton College, the UK’s centre for wine excellence, where he won the Hakkasan Student of the Year award.

Hardy’s passion led him to open Cru with his wife, Jordan, creating a quality restaurant and wine bar for fellow epicureans in Eastbourne.

His passion and dedication is certainly paying off, as Cru was recently highly commended by the Eastbourne Business Awards as one of the best places to eat and drink in Eastbourne.

Business Development Manager at Smith & Ouzman

Dinah was born in Eastbourne and attended schools locally, she started her career in Advertising before moving to the Middle East to work for a national airline. This was followed by two years in West Germany where she was responsible for sales of a leading car manufacturer to the American military personnel based there.

Returning to the UK, Dinah continued her sales career before taking a break to raise a family. She has relished the opportunity to return to work and in 2016 joined the family firm as a Business Development Manager drawing on her many years of experience in sales both B to B and B to C.

Smith & Ouzman are long standing members of the Chamber having joined in 1955, Dinah represents the company at Chamber events and is a committed supporter.
In her spare time Dinah enjoys walking in the South Downs National Park with her husband Phil and their Irish Setter, Rula. Dinah is also a keen gardener and values time spent with friends and family.

Ashley has over 30 years experience in the jewellery trade, working for 17 years with a National retailer before taking over and becoming the Managing Director of W Bruford ltd in 2000. He also holds the position of Brand Director within the Houlden buying group, a specialist jewellery buying company.

He is married to wife Debbie and has three children and has lived in Eastbourne for nearly 30 years. He is passionate about the jewellery trade and hopes his children will come into the family business in the future.

His two businesses in Eastbourne currently employ over 35 staff, with the new Arndale Centre store Inspired by Brufords going from strength to strength.

Head of Creative Arts Development at Eastbourne College

Linda is an arts strategist, project manager, workshop leader and drama teacher.

She has an MA in Arts and Cultural Management alongside her teaching qualifications and is presently Head of Creative Arts Development at Eastbourne College where she also teaches drama, has overall responsibility for dance and curates the visual arts programme for the Birley Centre.

She has worked as a theatre education director and young people’s theatre producer. She was arts manager for Waverley Borough Council from 1997- 2005 and the co-ordinator of Arts Partnership Surrey.

Linda is a Gold Arts Award assessor, a trustee of Lewes Live Literature, a board member of Creative Future and a member of the Community Engagement Steering Group for St Wilfrid’s Hospice. She has also been an advisor for the Arts Council on young people’s work.

When not doing all the above she enjoys reading, walking, travel, Pilates and yoga and is delighted to be involved with the work of the Chamber.

Shoes Simes has been resident in Eastbourne since 1975 and studied Business & Finance at College.

Having a very successful career in retail management for major retailers. She then owned independent shops in the North Laine, Brighton and was a part of the North Laine Traders Association.

She moved into hospitality management where, in just 6 years Shoes turned around 8 failing businesses. Then went on to purchase the Dew Drop Inn in 2007 followed by the Eagle in 2009 and The Counting House in 2019, where she employs over 50 staff.

Shoes is the Chair of the Little Chelsea Traders Association. an Executive of the Eastbourne Hospitality Association, Director of Eastbourne Chamber of Commerce, Director of Eastbourne and District Enterprise Agency, and Director of Your Eastbourne BID.

Group Operations Manager at TurremGroup

Tamryn Steinschauer is 29 years old and lives in the south of England with her husband Wesley overlooking stunning views of woodland and the seaside towards Beachy Head.

Growing up in Port Elizabeth, South Africa Tamryn spent most of her time on the beach, enjoyed trips along the garden route and safari getaways.

She studied at the Nelson Mandela University in 2009 where she obtained a diploma in marketing before starting her own promotions and events company employing 40 people. With her team she created and organised “The Craft Beer Festival” one of the first such events in South Africa and still going strong today.

While working she completed a business to business marketing module including commercial law at the International Institute of Marketing Management and was head hunted to join Life Green Group, one of the largest landscaping and environmental organizations in South Africa.

Tamryn was Sales Manager for the Group’s “Life Indoors” which entailed working on projects for the South African Government including managing the President’s premises. During this period she gained considerable knowledge of contract management and negotiation and managed a team of 16 people.
In 2016 Tamryn moved to the United Kingdom with her husband and joined the Turrem Data Group where she rose to the position of Group Operations Manager specializing in cyber security and IT.
After fundraising in South Africa to help schools and orphanages she has carried on helping others in the UK; including the annual Barbuda Cup Gold Day raising funds to build schools on the island of Barbuda and Hounds for Heroes, providing activity dogs for injured service people. She also ran a homeless shoebox collection point in Brighton helping the homeless get through the winter.

We have asked Tamryn to head up the Chamber “New Generation Leaders” group with Zoe Lau, Corporate Manager of Metro Bank, to introduce young people to the Chamber of Commerce.
