T J Hughes Redevelopment

The Chamber of Commerce worked closely with the Eastbourne Society and the C20 Society to persuade T J Hughes developers Capreon and owners The Rachel Charitable Trust to revise their plans and preserve the original facade of this elegant building, erected in 1926.

As you can see from the picture accompanying this piece below, the orginal plan was very slab sided and bland, some described it as "cultural vandalism", but the owner and developer heard what the Chamber and local people had to say and have produced a much improved design.

The Chamber attended various meetings with Capreon and found them to be very supportive of our ideas. We are delighted that they revised their plans for the building and will be going forward to planning with this much improved design.
