EASTBOURNE COMPANY TO DELIVER HYPERFAST BROADBAND FOR THE TOWN
Eastbourne gets hyperfast broadband putting it in top 14% of the country - a massive step to levelling up the town
An Eastbourne start-up has secured substantial investment to bring hyperfast full-fibre broadband to the town – making it the first south coast town to become a gigabit area.
Billed as the most profound infrastructure advancement to benefit residents and businesses in recent years, Eastbourne’s Lightning Fibre will build, install and operate a new full-fibre network in the town.
The new network will deliver multi-gigabit-capability of 10,000 megabits (10 gigabits) per second to over 100,000 homes and businesses in the area. According to a recent report, the average speed users get in Eastbourne/Hastings, from the aged copper infrastructure, is just 22.3 Mbps*.
Eastbourne’s Ben Ferriman, CEO of Lightning Fibre, said: “This is fantastic news for the town, for all residents and businesses. We can now accelerate our build programme in Eastbourne and then on to Hastings. Only about 14 percent of UK properties have full-fibre optic cables running all the way from the green cabinet on the street to their front doors, so it’s a very exciting time for the town and will ultimately make Eastbourne a gigabit-town.
“By providing 100 percent full fibre, 10Gbps capable broadband, in download and upload, we are putting Eastbourne at the forefront of the UK broadband revolution, giving our businesses and community the connectivity support they need and deserve, and helping to level up the town.”
The network is already available in certain parts of Eastbourne and will now be rolled out at speed to the rest of the town, followed by Hastings, and then East Sussex generally.
