Paws for Pudsey – A Record Attempt

If you go down to the town that day, you’re sure of a big surprise . . .

And you’ll simply never believe your eyes at the hundreds of well-loved teddy bears who will take to the streets of Eastbourne on Thursday, October 29.

The Paws for Pudsey challenge is asking owners of teddies large and small to gather in the town centre and to help create a British record.

The Arndale Centre in Terminus Road will be the gathering point for a bid to bring together a record-breaking number of teddies in an early Children In Need event.

“Teddy lovers of Eastbourne, take note!” said Neil Clough, manager of Boots and Chairman of the Healthy High Streets initiative, which is planning the event.

“Almost all of us have a teddy or cuddly toy we love to bits. As long as it has paws and a loving owner, we want you to bring it along on the big day!”

At approximately 3pm on Thursday, October 29, children from 2 to 102 and teddies will be asked to link hands and paws to form a record-breaking chain around the shopping centre and into Terminus Road. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, there has never been a successful attempt to set the World Record. Although according to our ‘bear’ sources, the previous attempt was set in 2008 with  1714 teddies and their owners.

“Here’s your chance to show off your little bundle of joy,” said Jodie Coomber, manager at Greggs, another supporter of Healthy High Streets. “The tattier the teddy, the more loved it probably is. Missing ears, missing eyes, missing limbs, we don’t care! We want them all to join their friends, so please come along.”

Organisers are promising a fun afternoon on teddy day, which falls in school half term week, with balloons, stickers and mini ginger teddy biscuits.

Chief Executive of Eastbourne UnLtd, the Eastbourne Chamber of Commerce, Christina Ewbank added: “This is an opportunity to raise money for Children in Need, celebrate our high street and more importantly make Pudsey proud and put Eastbourne on the map as the cuddly capital of the country. It’s time for teddies across our town to unite!”
