Member of the Week: Eastbourne Car Auctions

Eastbourne Car Auctions is an independent, family run business and was established in 1967 by Joy Ashworth. The original quarter acre town centre site in West Street was formerly the stable yard of Elliott the Grocers (Eastbourne’s biggest supermarket of its day). On this site we managed to park about 60 vehicles and during busy auctions the roads around the site became our unofficial car park.
After 23 successful years in West Street, we had outgrown the site and, in May 1990, relocated to a 1.5 acre site on Lottbridge Drove. It was at that time that Joys son Jonathan Mitchell became MD. Following the introduction of the internet and broadband services, we went through massive changes in the way we promoted and ran our business day-to-day.
Following investment on £3.5million and extensive refurbishment our new, state-of-the-art, three acre auction complex was formally opened in September 2012 by Eastbourne MP Stephen Lloyd.
